What is a Medical Malpractice Expert Witness?

Medical malpractice cases normally occur when a medical professional is alleged to have failed to provide a quality standard of care. Malpractice claims usually involve seeking damages for the plaintiff as a result of intentional misconduct, failure to prevent foreseeable injuries, failure to provide correct test results, and failure to provide proper medical treatment. The most important witness in a medical malpractice claim is the medical malpractice expert witness.

Protecting Your Loved Ones With Medical Alert Dialers

If you have elderly people living with you but are often left alone in the house, or elderly loved ones who wants to be independent and live alone, the best security that you can give them would be medical alert dialers. At a push of an emergency button, distress calls will be made to numbers that are already programmed into the base unit or auto dialer. These units also have speaker phone capabilities that can serve as a two-way communication system between the recipient of the emergency calls and the user so an assessment of the situation can be immediately made.

You Can Be a Victim of Medical Identity Theft

I am not trying to scare you. I am simply stating a fact. Medical identity theft is a crime that is just as rampant as credit card fraud but is not as publicized. I can't provide any clear explanation why that is so. Maybe because there are no significant monetary variables involved other than the medical insurance and claims that may have been otherwise claimed by the plan holder, or maybe because it is simply not as interesting as credit card fraud.

Medical Identity Theft - Another Crime to Watch Out For

Identity theft can be divided into several categories and, unfortunately, this fast growing crime already reached our medical records. This kind of identity theft, classified as medical identity theft, can easily be done because there are also several persons, whether authorized or unauthorized, who can access our medical records that contains necessary and confidential information. These people can be anyone, from physicians to other medical personnel or even some other persons who really want your medical identity.

Info on Medical Illustration

Medical illustration is just one of the several classifications of illustrations that are designed to provide superior accuracy and clarity to any piece of medical writing. Performed and excelled by professional medical illustrators, this distinctive applied art is used as a technique that offers better communication of any medical teachings that appear in the form of textual material. Medical drawings accompany any piece of biological or medical information in the form of visual representation that focus directly on the subject rather than having its own means of existence. They are therefore used to support the learners by providing them with the clear picture of the subject or the textual information that comes in a medical book or magazine. When complemented with medical illustrations, you will have better understanding of the topic.
Unlike the art of imaginative drawings and paintings, medical illustration is a field that requires strict accuracy and quality as you are aiming to provide the true picture to the learners about the most complex biological forms of life. But, however, with the help of so many tools and modern techniques for expanding and enhancing your illustrations, you can provide better quality and accuracy to the illustrations as compared to the traditional ways of hand drawing. There are so many places where medical illustrations are used in addition to journals and textbooks including the web, advertising, for patient education, trade shows, interactive learning, continuing medical education, museums, television, dental, veterinary as well as legal fields. Along with medical professors and authors, these illustrations are also utilized by the attorneys to provide clear medical information to the jury.
If you are interested in learning the techniques, then there is good career platform that is waiting for you. Call Center Services: Medical Answering Services

The healthcare sector is billed as the next big thing for call center services. In countries like USA, healthcare is one of the most promising industries. The Barack Obama administration has passed the healthcare reform bills that will provide medical aid to about 2 million Americans. That would mean greater emphasis on medical answering services. This is one of the few telemarketing services that look at a future brighter than it is at the present. With more healthcare units coming into its own, there will be a huge demand for BPO companies to get these projects. Ideally the government projects would not be outsourced to offshore call centers. But many third world companies are now tying up with the domestic companies in USA to bag those projects. Then these will be transferred to the cheaper BPO service units in countries like India and Brazil.

The Role of Clinical Documentation in Meeting the Demands of the Medical Field

The changes in the medical industry are focused on the improvement of the different areas and have created a lot of opportunities to a lot of individuals involved. More medical professionals became in demand to carry out delicate jobs. The expertise of different medical professionals has always been in demand and as the society adapts to modern lifestyle, the medical industry has the ongoing challenge of meeting modern health care needs. This is just one of the many reasons why the United States consider medical careers as among the top jobs and thousands of foreigners are being accepted each year to perform roles in the medical field. With the improvements in the medical field, even aspects which are usually administrative in nature now require medical experts. For instance, the aspect of clinical documentation now requires a documentation specialist.

FERS and CSRS Disability Retirement: Quality and Quantity of the Medical Document

Whether or not a Federal or Postal employee is eligible for Federal Disability Retirement benefits under FERS (Federal Employee's Retirement System) or CSRS (the Civil Service Retirement System or, in the parlance of many, the "old" system), is ultimately determined by both the quality and the quantity of the medical documentation presented and submitted to the Office of Personnel Management. Such medical documentation should include, at a minimum, a medical narrative report prepared by one's treating doctor; office and/or treatment notes of the treating doctor, for up to 18 months prior to the filing of the Federal Disability Retirement application; any diagnostic testing, including X-ray results, MRIs, EMGs, etc.; and any recent records on hospitalization and surgeries, if available.

iPhone Apps for Medical and Healthcare Purposes

Expert Author Anand Raju
The Medical and Health-care applications became an important segment for the iPhone applications. With advanced technology and Smartphone applications, serious health problems have been transformed into an easier solution for solving health issues. The iPhone applications for medical and health-care are very useful for patients and at the same time are very productive for doctors and hospitals. The main advantage of these medical apps is - the doctors can introduce their own version of iPhone application to reach more patients who might be looking for them. In any case, if the patient is not able to visit the hospital, he/she can connect with the doctor directly from their iPhone.
The patients can even download lifestyle management apps from the App store that reminds them of their diet, workout schedules and inform new side effects, etc. The Medical applications are categorized into-

How On-Site Medical Clinics Curb Fast-Rising Costs of Medical Care in Workers Comp

Expert Author Michael B Stack
On-Site Clinics Decrease Costs
Many medium and large employers in their never-ending battle to reduce cost and to provide benefits to their employees are opting for on-site medical clinics. On-site medical clinics can decrease the cost of general health benefits programs and decrease the cost of medical care associated with workers' compensation claims. On-site medical clinics have proven they can curb the fast-rising cost of medical care for both personal and work-related injuries and illnesses.
Some employers are hiring clinicians themselves, and others are using contracted providers who also provide software, protocols and other tools to support the clinicians.

Please, Take My (Medical) Privacy?

Each of us can give an anecdote about how we live daily with less privacy. However, in a smaller way, examine for a minute how this erosion is played out in our lives daily as increasingly--and often, subtly--we unwittingly give away access to highly personal, medical information.
In everyday personal injury law, claimants (a claimant is someone who "puts their physical or medical condition at issue" in a lawsuit for injuries resulting from an automobile collision or other incidental or intentional act) innocently surrender medical and psychiatric information. For instance, most legal professionals will tell you that they expect, by bringing a lawsuit, someone who is claiming injury will give up any privacy interest they have in medical data and records concerning their treatment. However, how far will that waiver extend? In our state, if you claim being $60 thousand in debt for medical expenses caused you emotional stress, you are probably going to hand the "other side" your psychiatric records for the last thirty years on a silver platter, assuming that such records exist!

The Hippocratic Oath Upheld PHI, Your Personal Health Information Kept Private

"I will respect the privacy of my patients, for their problems are not disclosed to me that the world may know." (1) This excerpt from the modern Hippocratic Oath to which every doctor swears by; it was set to ensure that each patient’s information and condition is kept private.
The communal spaces of a clinic pharmacy or hospital often don't mirror the tenet for medical privacy. For example, standing in line waiting to ask the pharmacist a personal question can be an embarrassing and even traumatizing ordeal as complete strangers stand within earshot. For many patients, simply having to divulge personal health information (PHI) can be an uncomfortable occurrence in itself. Couple this fear with the security and privacy risks inherent to anything of a personal nature, particularly one’s own medical information. Being sick today or even going in for an annual exam or wellness visit connotes a hesitancy on patients who are all to wary of things like identity theft.

Medical Records and Health Information Technicians - Career Opportunities

Medical records and health information technicians handle and organize patient records, and evaluate these records for completeness and accuracy.
They may specialize in coding patients' medical information for insurance purposes. They will tabulate and analyze data to improve patient care, control costs, provide documentation for use in legal actions and respond to surveys for use in research studies. They conduct annual follow-ups on all patients to track their treatment, survival, and recovery. They may supervise health information clerks and transcriptionists.
In 2004 there were about 159,000 technicians in the U.S. About 40% worked in hospitals. The rest were mostly in physician's offices, nursing care facilities, outpatient care centers, and home health care services. Some worked in insurance firms that deal in health matters. In public health departments technicians supervise data collection.

How to Get the Best Medical Care

Expert Author Stuart Goltzman
My name is Stuart Goltzman and I want to write articles and stories that will help people navigate the difficult world we live in and stay safe and healthy. I will be writing about my experiences and what I have learned mostly the hard way as a patient and businesman. I have plenty of academic credentials but most of what I know is from living life and its ups and downs. And lots of self education.
One of my pet peeves is the field of medicine and doctors. People are getting so screwed over so bad by the medical profession its unbelievable. Sure there are great doctors and great hospitals and great drugs and great things being done everyday by an army of health care workers. But when you have a difficult medical problem - watch out. Only through transparency will the truth be told. And that's the way I tell it. I don't write about topics which I have little credibility or which I cannot back up with facts and sources.

Finding Reliable Health Information on the Internet

Expert Author Ruthan Brodsky
There must be tens of thousands of health-related websites and blogs on the Internet and the list grows daily. Some sites are useful while others may present inaccurate information, misleading interpretation of studies, and out of date information. My recommendation is that you evaluate a website the first time you visit it to determine if it's reliable.
Keep in mind that content on the Internet is not regulated and anyone can publish anything. On the other hand, there is sound medical information on the Internet along with the quackery and dangerous information. You, however, need to be able to tell the difference.
As you search online you're going to find websites for health agencies and other organizations that aren't well known. By answering the following questions you will find out more. Many of these details can be found on the dashboard under the heading About or Contact Us.

Job Growth in Information System Management

Job growth in the United States has been recently, viewed as dismal by many experts. If you look closer at the job market though, not every sector of business is experiencing a decline in growth. Information Technology within organizations has grown over the years. Relatively new positions in many large organizations have been created in the past 20 years, such as CTO (Chief Technology Officer) and CIO (Chief Information Officer) in response to the growing importance of technology and its components. Generally the CTO answers to the CIO, who answers to the CEO. While keeping up-to-date hardware and software is challenging and crucial, accurate Information Systems and analysis is vital. Information System Management is a specialized field with job growth that has been, and continues to be, on the rise. Technological advancements have allowed for exponential growth in Information Systems, both in size and practicality. Cloud systems have developed into virtually limitless support systems for small and mid-size companies. The increased use of information systems is accompanied by an increased need for information system professionals.
The move from paper records to digital ones unlocked an increased value of information. Years ago the data was available; however, by the time a firm could process the information, often current conditions had already changed; which made the information less valuable. New technology continues to produce limitless functions; the use of Information Systems has become limitless also. Today, when you subscribe to a retailer's services, your personal information, preferences, and order history are saved and accessed making your purchases more convenient and even making personalized marketing suggestions for future purchases. Databases are used in every aspect of business now-a-days, manufacturing, inventory, sales and marketing, and human resources. It only makes sense that the need for managers of these systems has increased and continues to increase correspondingly with the boundless uses of Information Systems, created by the advancements in technology.
In the "paper" days, storage was limited by physical space. As technology moved us away from brick and mortar requirements, our limits were bound by storage capacity and access. Storage capacity has grown exponentially, along with processor speeds that help with access. Large companies have moved from housing buildings for document storage to rooms for servers, which can be accessed by the individual departments via networks. Technology has taken us even beyond the need for large servers with the development of Cloud services. I recently had a conversation with an owner of a small research company, who uses a local server for network storage and access and a Cloud System for storage of the required medical information. The Cloud Database meets the security requirements without a large up-front hardware investment and allows his small company to have access to advanced database services. A company of less than 25 employees is now able to compete in a market that was once reserved for large organizations.
Job growth in Information Systems has not slowed, if anything more jobs are being created regularly. New capabilities of integrating IS with customer services and accessibility of these systems to mid-size and small businesses is expanding the uses of information systems. This is part of the reason that job growth in Information Systems is predicted to increase faster than the average growth of all occupations. There are more uses for IS now than ever before and the potential that is available for the future evolution of IS has become limited only by an organization's imagination. Information System managers are needed to keep up with the changing capabilities of data processing. The need for managing information is crucial to a business' success. Most Colleges and Universities offer bachelors and masters degrees in Management/MIS for specialized education in the escalating field of Information System Management.

Advancement in Technology and the Changing Landscape of Information Security in Health Information

The advent of the Electronic Health Record ("EHR") holds the potential to alter the paradigm of medical care. In this modern age a patient's information or lab results can be zipped to a Dr.'s phone where he can analyze them instantly. Nurses can enter/retrieve notes and findings on a patient's emergency room treatment from a nurses' station, a laptop or a portable device from anywhere in the hospital, rather than waiting for the paper chart to make its tortuous way up several stories to the patient's room. And, perhaps within the next few years, a patient's information can be sent anywhere in a matter of seconds.

How To Treat Toenail Fungus - Medically, Naturally, Affordably, And Effectively!

Expert Author Christopher Smith Jr.
Toenail fungus can be unsightly, embarrassing, and very difficult to get rid of. However, difficult does not mean impossible and ugly fungus can in fact be treated. There are a variety of ways to rid yourself of the troublesome issue, both medically as well as naturally.
The most important thing in treating toenail fungus is getting started as soon as possible. This is important because it can simply take a long time. Just as there are a considerable number of ways to treat nail fungus, there are many variances in how effective they are for certain people, as well as how long it takes to work. Very often, even a doctor prescribed solution can take more than 6 weeks to work. Some fungus is so advanced, or a person is simply tolerant to treatment, that it can take up to 6 months to be gone completely. This means that whether you treat the problem at home with natural remedies or you go to the doctor or pharmacy, it's best to act fast, as it can take some trial and error, and well as time and patience.

Clear Information Clutter by Creating a Home Continuity Plan

Information, it is everywhere, growing, essential and out of control. Do you ever feel lost in a paper jungle? Have you ever considered what would happen if you could not get back into your house due to a fire, chemical spill or other disaster or if you had to get your family out immediately? The last thing on your mind would be your information, no matter how vital that information was.
There is one solution for both of these problems and that is to have a home continuity plan. A home continuity plan contains the information needed to respond to an emergency and the information needed to recover after the initial crisis has been handled. As you identify and document the information for your home continuity plan, you will be organizing your most critical information, making it easily accessible and making sure that other family members know where the information is and when and how to use it.
So what is a home continuity plan, do you really need one, how do you get started, and how will it also save you time day-to-day and clear up your information clutter?

Learning About Medical Conditions on Usenet

Expert Author Marion Marshall
The Usenet system is a great source of information about more topics than can conveniently be listed. Many individuals use this service to network with others with whom they share medical conditions. These conditions span the gamut; from simple things such as neck pain to very serious conditions, such as congenital heart disease. If you use these services right, you can get very good information.
One advantage about using the Usenet system for this research is that you can ask very direct questions and get specific information while retaining your anonymity. Quite understandably, most people are not comfortable with sharing their medical information online or even in a regular public situation. To make sure that you're not crossing any of your own personal boundaries in this regard, start small and generic.
